Outeniqua Trout Lodge is a delightful refuge for those who need to escape from the world- the
perfect place to catch your breath and stay for a while. We are situated on the scenic Prince
Alfred's pass only 55km from Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. The pass was built in 1860
along the route used for millennia by elephants.
We pride ourselves in being 'green'; providing our own electricity and water from natural resources,
as well as effluent treatment, making us independent from the national power grid and other municipal
services. Our main farming activity is the growing of rainbow and brown trout and organic pecan
Landowners in the surrounding area have all agreed to establish the Middle Keurbooms Conservancy,
making it a special natural corridor with unique flora and fauna as well as exceptional bird life.
There are also many examples of ancient 'bushmen art' dating back 6 000 years or more.
At Outeniqua Trout Lodge, we pride ourselves in participating in responsible sustainable tourism.
The ever-changing mountains form the backdrop to this picturesque farm. It is a perfect retreat;
a place where the "Absolute Peace" will restore weary souls, and the only sounds are bird songs
and the cry of the Fish Eagle.
There is no television, telephone or mobile reception in our valley, perfect to enjoy the bright
stars and silence of the farm. Remember, de Vlugt has no petrol, bank or credit card facilities,
so fill up you tank and your wallet before you arrive.
The lodge section of the farm is separate to the growing and farming area and is a secure peaceful
Guests are welcome to explore the farm on foot, or learn more about our responsible
sustainable farming and how we generate our own electricity with hydro and solar power.
We offer self-catering accommodation, both comfortable wooden lodges and (Sioux Indian style) tipi tents.
